Cultural Programs at the Norwegian Seamen’s Church in New York
There has always been extensive cultural activity in the long history of the Norwegian Seamen’s Church in New York. Amongst the many exhibitions, concerts, theatre performances, seminars and lectures, there have been concerts with well-known artists such as Sissel Kyrkjebø, Per Asplin, Helene Bøksle, Morten Gunnar Larsen’s Ophelia Ragtime Band, Hanne Krogh, Ivar Skippervold and Sondre Lerche – and with lesser-known artists, such as students studying at Bergen’s Grieg Academy and the new Norwegian jazz band In the Country.

There have been exhibitions by well known artists such as Frans Widerberg, Ørnulf Opdahl and Vebjørn Sand – and with young, up-and-coming artists such as Tomas Ramberg and Haavard Homstvedt. All this cultural activity at the church puts an intentional emphasis on the promotion of young, emerging Norwegian artists.
