Norwegian Culture in New York
New York is in many ways the cultural capital of the world. Artists from all over the world travel here to seek inspiration and to present themselves and their art – and, as the song goes: ’If you can make it here, you’ll make it anywhere’! What better place for a young artist to be seen or heard and written about? Having a New York by-line on file or in a resume can be very important. Norway has much to offer from its thriving cultural life and, wanting to put even more emphasis on its cultural profile, the board of directors created a new position on the church staff, that of ‘cultural director’. This position was established in January 2003, with the goal of realizing the huge potential that lies in the many Norwegian artists that live or visit New York.

This fund will give Norwegians as well as Americans the opportunity to interpret and present the valuable cultural heritage of Norway to the general public. In September 2003, the founding of the Trygve Lie Gallery provided another important tool in implementing the promotion of Norwegian art in New York.
