Statement:
These pictures tell several different stories. The one thing
they have in common are the colours. I am passionate about
colours. It is surprising how one can find new colour –combinations
that one has never used before, even after years of studying.
I am so crazy about colours, that I am able to cut down
a beautiful lily in the garden because the colour was not
right.
Everybody can see and feel the effect of colours. But as
a musician needs years of practice to be able to play well,
so does the painter need to work to get his colours right.
Colours and music are feelings that bring performer and
audience together.
I am often asked, which colour is my favourite. But I do
not have one. There are no ugly colours, only unfortunate
combinations. The motives in this show are about women doing
different things that we (women) do a lot. Things that happen
to me have to be painted. To tango, and to get it right,
to cook, but you don’t get any help, to answer the
cellphone at an inconvenient moment, etc.
The small town with white houses is where I have my summerstudio,
on the southern coast of Norway. The houses look as if God
stood on the hillside and threw them out in a mess. To get
this impression on canvas, I painted them an a way that
would make an architect cry. But you sometimes have to tell
a lie to tell the truth.
