Dag
Telhaug is a Norwegian painter from Lindesnes,
the uttermost southern point of Norway. Lindesnes is a place
with deep and strong connections to America. More people
than actually live there today emigrated from this area
to the USA throughout the last century.
The painter Dag Telhaug receives much of his inspiration
from the ocean, the life around it and the tension between
light and darkness. Important aspects of this exhibition
is to present costal landscapes of Norway and also to give
an impression of the significance ‘the art of sailing’
has had to Norwegians living by the ocean. In earlier days
boats and ships were the most important means for Norwegians
to connect to the rest of the world – from the days
of the Vikings and Leiv Eriksson's discovery of America
around year 1000 and up to our century.
His
ancestors being sailors and boat builders, Dag Telhaugs
family background represent another important source of
inspiration. The artist himself lives (of course) close
to the sea – so close that during stormy days the
water from the sea splashes over both his house and his
studio.
The exhibition "Sailing North" contains motifs
from two different coastlines in Norway, Sørlandet
in the south and Lofoten in the north, and we welcome you
to join our journey in music as well as figurative art –
Sailing North!
