The
exhibition Silent Cities - reflections on
urbanity, civilization, time and decay features
paintings by Christopher Rådlund and music by composer
Marcus Paus.
Composer
Marcus Paus and painter Christopher
Rådlund have an ongoing collaboration which
has resulted in several exhibitions, 2 CD´s, joint
efforts as artists-in-residence of last year's Festival
for Church, Art & Culture in Norway, and numerous
mutually inspired works of art and music. Trygve Lie Gallery
in New York are happy to present this exhibition &
concert which features new works sharing the theme Silent
Cities; reflections on urbanity, civilization, time and
decay. Rådlund has completed new paintings
for this exhibition and the project also involves a special
music piece for trio written especially for project by
composer Marcus Paus.
About
the artists:
Christopher
Rådlund was born in Gothenburg, Sweden
in 1970, but he has lived in Norway since 1991.
He is educated at the Art Industry School in Gothenburg,
the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, the Art Academy
of Umeå among other places. Rådlund
is primarily working with paintings and graphic
art. His first solo exhibition was in Galleri 27
in Oslo in 1998 and since then he has had several
solo exhibitions and participated in many group
exhibitions. He has also been the editor of the
periodical Kilden and has been guest editor in the
periodical Aorta. He is one of the driving forces
behind the art organization Frie Kunster in Oslo.

Marcus
Paus (b.1979) studied composition at
the Norwegian Academy of Music and at the Manhattan
School of Music. His catalogue includes solo works,
chamber and orchestral music, opera, songs and choral
works, and also several scores for stage and screen.
His music has been commissioned and performed throughout
Europe and the United States. Paus has served as
festival composer for both the Winter Chamber Music
Festival in Røros 2002, and the Kristiansund
Festival for Church, Arts and Culture 2006. The
latter saw the premiere of his Symphony no.1 under
the baton of Arve Tellefsen. Paus' second opera,
"The Witches" (based on a novel by Roald
Dahl) will be premiered at Gloppen Music Festival
in Norway in the summer of 2008. Paus is the recipient
of a Fulbright scholarship, and the American-Scandinavian
Foundation's Mathilde Aas Memorial Scholarship.
Marcus Paus is a member of the Norwegian Society
of Composers, and his works are published by Norsk
Musikforlag. |
